Thank you for all your interesting comments. Your story about your outdoor/indoor cats would make a very useful submission to this page - Outdoor Cat – or – Indoor Cat.
As to your question about a connection with cats who love running water and Pumas, I don't think that there is one, but I could be wrong. Both Pumas and domestic cats are members of the cat family of course, but it is believed that the domestic cat is a descendant of the African wildcat.

Cats/inside/outside debate by: lorri
While I have your attention, let me address another issue about cats.Should they live outside or inside?
I am lucky that I can promise my cats both.We live right onto a park,so my cats can climb trees or stay inside as they wish. This is an ideal situation for cats, and mine really know it.
I know about the problems with this approach,,nasty people, dogs, trees where cats get stuck.Life-problems,all of us have them
However what overrides these problems is the knowledge that my cats choose to live with me and that they make this choice anew everyday.Cats thrive in freedom. There is something missing in cat-jails,I say.

TEACH CATS SURVIVAL by: lorri
While many pages are devoted to how to feed cats, they all assume the best of circumstances. A cat may be lucky or unlucky. In the life of a cat or his owner, there are no guarantees. What about wars, fires, death, economic downturns. Therefore in feeding my cats I factor in what is readily available, as well as more expensive and not so readily available.
If the cat does not get diarrhea from cow's milk, what's wrong with it?Mine are cow's milk friendly. Cottage and yoguort the same. Eggs occasionally. Mine love bread and margarine, fight over it.
Food scraps are often enough and teach the cat what's out there. Cat food is not all that's out there.Cats should be prepared for a rainy day

fascinating detail about cats. why not all cats love running water? by: lorri
I am a bigtime cat lover, experience over 65 years.over 350 cats and only 2 cats loved running water.both black, both male. neither knew each other.
the non-drinkers of running water watch but never try it.they drink water from a bowl. Conclusion drinking water from tap is determined by what? genetics?.
I, like cats, am just curious?

searching for genetic link for cats to prefer running water by: lorri
I have had two cases where black male cats unknown to each other drove me batty to turn on the tap to drink from running water. Is there any connection with common genes for Puma wild, cat. I know that two cases don't make a rule!I saw a video somewhere that Puma's drive for running water is/was a survival mechanism.

only running water. by: Anonymous
I have had three cats two of them would only drink running water. It was as if they did not know how to drink fro a dish. My third cat was not interested in water from the faucet he preferred his water in the same dish the he ate his food from. Cats are wonderful and they all have their own ways.

Mason's personality by: Katie
Mason is a delightful kitty. He has such an easygoing personality. Always comes to greet me at the door when I come home and follows me around the house. Enjoys chasing his toy mice, shadows, and of course hanging out on the sink when the faucet is turned on:) He's a great pet.

Love the expression on his face. by: Larry (Editor)
A splendid photo and I agree with Connie, Mason's markings are lovely.
I love the expression on his face too, looks like he is yelling out "Hey there's water running out again!"
Thank you very much for your submission.
