Bad Bedo or Mentally Sick Bedo?

by Coty Sparkes

Hi there, I'm the proud owner of a 1 1/2 year old barn cat named Bedo. He is so out going even though he is an indoor cat he still loves to go out on the balcony to tease the squirrels. When we first brought Bedo home he was so ill from being out doors in the barn in the cold and being brought into the hot home of the farmer, that he got a condition which included sneezing and tiredness. His first car ride was with us on our way to his new home. Even though he had made a very big mess in the back seat of the car.. thank goodness for catalogs and all their sheets of paper.

He started out by hiding under our bed, at the time we lived with 4 other people and it made him uneasy being around all the noise, so he camped out under my bed for about 3 days. He then got use to every one and started sleeping between us in bed, jumping up and playing. As far as we had known he was a she, and until he got a little older we were convinced he actually was a female.

We ended up having to get him declawed because be has multiple paws and shortly after having him fixed, and I know he is still mad with me about that.. When Bedo turned 1 we moved into our own apartment. He was a little scared in the beginning but quickly changed his tune.. We went on vacation and I brought him back a bed and some toys. he refused to get into the basket, so I sat a teddy bare in it.

Over the past 3 months I have noticed unusual behavior in Bedo. He will jump me when I'm sitting on the couch, he will bite and dig his claws in my arm, but in the evening he will get up and lay beside me on the couch, he loves me to hug him and hold him on my lap when I sit. He often tries to climb the door case, he just started laying in the basket I had got for him. It can be so funny, when I look at his face, concerning he is a barn cat , which might mean he was cross bread, I sometimes think he may have a mental disability. His eyes are farther apart, he cries non stop and he is just a little wild bugger. I don't discipline him for any of this cause he is so sweet, but when he bites he knows when it's to rough and will stop.

Even after having him fixed he is so active, he sleeps maybe 2 hours in the day but then at night curls up to my feet and ill sleep most of the night. The rest of the night he is jumping up onto the bed after digging into the litter box with kitty litter on his toes and up over my boy friends face to get to the cool air in the window, I swear Bedo knows what he is doing.. He also know all about territory, he will come to bed with me, but as soon as my Boy friend comes to be he jumps down and will later return. When my boy friend is on the couch in his spot, and will get up to go to the kitchen Bedo will jump in his spot and will continue to do this through out the day, so maybe Bedo does have a mental disability, maybe he is a special needs cat, I can see it in his eyes, he is just different...HE is a special little guy .....Coty
