Nov 16, 2009, Louis Wain's Cats.

In Edwardian London cats were still thought of as an unworthy form of pet.

They were not usually considered as acceptable subjects for illustrations. That is until Louis Wain started to draw them. Not content with drawing cats realistically his feline creations had human traits. They walked on two legs, smoked, played the fiddle and often wore human clothing. Eventually Louis Wain's cats became a big hit with adults as well as with children.

And then the cats began to change... Louis Wain - eccentric creator of cat art.

Nov 8, 2009, A Cat Calendar is a Welcome Gift.

“Christmas is coming and the geese are getting fat.”

Those geese, as well as turkeys, may have a few problems at Christmas time, but they do not have the problem of buying gifts for all their friends and acquaintances.

Perhaps it is not usually our nearest and dearest family members that are the most difficult to buy gifts for, after all one way or another they often let us know what they want.

It's our larger circle of friends that can present the difficulty. You can't get everyone the best gift in the store, what smaller gift do they want or need?

If your friends are cat lovers . . . problem solved.

Cat Calendars and Kitten Calendars make very welcome gifts and something that your friends will find useful all year long.

Don't forget to order a 2010 cat calendar or two for yourself.

Nov 4, 2009, Cat Laws Too Harsh?

According to a news report there are some new laws regarding domestic cats that have just been, or are about to be brought into force in Tasmania (Australia.)

It will be compulsorily for all owners of Tasmania's estimated 92,000 pet cats to have them microchiped and neutered if they are older than six months. That will certainly ease the stray and feral cat problem but should it be compulsorily?

No kittens or cats will be able to be advertised or legally sold until they are at least eight weeks old and have been neutered and microchipped to individually identify each cat and its owner. The fine for selling an un-neutered cat will be as high as $6000, owners of cats without identification microchips implanted will face a $2400 penalty. Wow, they are not messing about.

Here's what I absolutely do not agree with - New legislation proposes that any cat left unclaimed by its owners at a cat management facility such as a council pound, for more than five days can be euthanased without its owner's permission.

Also local councils will be able to declare any area of land such as a council park, as a prohibited cat zone where any cat can be legally trapped, seized and humanely destroyed.

Farmers will be able to destroy any cat caught on their property if it is found more than one kilometer from any nearby homes. I don't agree with that at all!
