Forgetful Cat =]

by Adam
(Connecticut)

I've had many cats in my short 15 years of life, but the one I have right now is my favorite. He's so cuddly and handsome.

The funny thing is, though, that he is very old (16 years I think now?). Occasionally, he forgets where he is or even how he got there. He just blanks out. It's amusing to watch even though it probably means he is losing his mind slowly.

Although he blanks out many times a day, he is also very smart.

He knows that it's time to eat where he hears a can open. He knows that I'm home when my mom says my name.

It's amazing how such animals can be so stupid at times (no offense to him) and, yet, be so amazingly smart.

He is forgetting.

I was very interested to read your story. My cat too is acting very strange.

I do not for sure know how old he is, he has been with me for five years but was grown when I got him, I think he is now quite old.

When I put down his food he has always eaten half and then wandered away. He would go back after about an hour and eat the rest, no problem. But about the last six months he eats half and goes off, but then he is crying like I have forgotten to put his food out. I have to pick him up and put him down in front of his food which he then eats.

If I didn't do that he would be crying for his food all night. It's very worrying.

Cats can be particularly smart.
by: Larry (Editor)

Hi Adam,

Yes animals certainly can be smart and it seems to me that cats can be particularly smart.

16 is not all that old for a cat, sure he has passed the first flush of youth but many cats go on to live a lot longer.

And if he forgets where he is sometimes, well even I do that, but then I am old :0)

Sounds like you have a great cat, thank you for sharing your story.
