I accidently killed a black cat with my car

by MARIA
(TOA BAJA, PR)

I was angry because I had had a discussion and therefore speeding in my car. I suddenly saw a black thing that crossed in front of my car. It was a big black cat and I felt how the tire bumped in it.

As I looked at it through my view mirror, I saw it jumping. I went back but it was badly wounded and bleeding as it finally died. I was devastated because I felt hopeless and started crying, felt really bad.

Anger is an enemy. I felt that my luck was going bad, because of all the superstitions. I guess it just how you look at it.

WHY DID IT CAME RUNNING TOWARDS MY CAR??? DOES IT MEAN SOMETHING. IT WASN'T MY INTENTION, IT WAS OUT OF MY CONTROL.

It's not your fault
by: Anonymous

It's the owners of the cats who let them out. If cat owners really loved their cats and had respect for every song bird, chipmunk, rabbit and tiny mammal their cats regularly kill they would keep their pets indoors. Again, it's not your fault.

Bad luck or just coincidence?
by: Anonymous

I accidently killed a black cat. It ran right out in front of me and there was no time to stop. When I got to work, it was a friday, I told my wonderful boss about it. He was a great person never wanted you to feel bad about things. So all day he made light of the situation joking around about it. Kept picking on me because I was so superstitious. Even when I left at the end of the day he was still teasing me. That sunday he went out for a run and had a heart attack and died while jogging. I am a religious person and so am not normally superstitous. But I will never forget this for the rest of my life. My boss was not ill and was in great spirits. Everyone was shocked when he died.

April 2012 is still haunting me...
by: Anonymous

...That was when I witnessed a car run over a Black cat that crossed my path. The cat was still alive when I helped the put it in the womans car and directed her to the closest vet.

However, since this hapened all my family have died. I would say that my luck has got worse (I would know, because I am a gambler), and I cannot 'unsee' that day in April 2012...

Before this a cat ran under my car, but there was no collision; I'm not saying the two events are related, but they hapened so close. My only wish was that the cat survived but I guess I'll never know...

Someone just killed both mine

No it probably doesn't "mean" anything. It just means your anger killed an innocent life & remember that everything that goes around comes around.

I was going out to grab a bite to eat and a cat was right underneath the tire of my car. It did not pay attention to my car being turned on and when I reversed I killed him. I feel so guilty that I searched online for many ways revive the cat when I came back it was already dead. Witness the cat in pain that picture will never be forgotten.so hi feel so bad the cat is in a better place I wish people keep their animals inside their house.

Cat Owners are also responsible
by: Anonymous

I live in the mountains and there are a lot of squirrels here, who also sometimes dash out into the road in front of my car. There are also sometimes rabbits. I agree that it is a horrible feeling to run over an animal, whether it be a cat, rabbit or squirrel.

As for cats, however, I feel that they are domesticated animals and that we as humans are responsible for their well-being. If you have a cat you love and live near roads where there is traffic, then keep him or her inside!

And there is another thing you can do: slow down on the roads and be vigilant. Just being alert can help a lot.

help me!
by: Anonymous

I accidentally run over a cat this morning, I stunned and shocked. I never thought of the possibility that the cat might survive and I just left. When I searched through the internet on how people should react when they accidentally run over animal, I realized that I should have stop and check on the poor cat. I feel so bad now, anything else that I can do for the cat?

I can't focus on my study now.

Cats don't understand the dangers.
by: Larry (editor)

Hi Anonymous,

I agree that there are plenty of 'crappy' drivers on the roads. Not everyone that hits a cat with their car is a bad driver though.

Sadly cats don't understand the dangers, they see something they need to chase and just dash out. And yes, I agree that we would all be fitter if we walked everywhere, and that cats would be safer too. Unfortunately modern life is what it is and motor vehicles are a big part of it.

I was so upset and sad and feel very bad. As more of its brothers and sisters came to see its dead sibling i felt even worse. I hope god forgives me forvthis accident.

my hubby did hit a cat accidentally
by: Anonymous

It was around 7 pm 5/18/2012. while my husband is driving a white cat pass on our way and accidentally hit and bumped in front of our car and died.

I was so worried since i always heard this superstitious belief that when you kill a cat it will cause you bad luck.

Sad but unavoidable
by: Anonymous

I do understand your feelings about hitting that poor cat. So many animals are not vehicle savvy and it is sad but often unavoidable that we sometimes hit them while driving. I live in the country and teach at night and try my best to look out for animals when driving home. Several times I have slowed down for rabbits or foxes who run ahead of my car, frightened out of their wits. But once, coming around a curve, out of nowhere, a sweet little bunny ran right in front of me and I heard the sickening Thump-bump. I hated that and felt sick for a long time afterwards. But the truth is, we drive fast cars in animal territory and they sometimes don't get out of the way in time. So, what to do? Stop driving and just walk everywhere? (It would take me hours to get to the college where I teach that takes me over an hour to get to driving.) I guess we just have to be as alert and aware as possible and hope for the best and be thankful that we don't run over more of them.

Please do not feel too bad.
by: Larry (Editor)

Hi Maria,

Sadly it's a fact of life that cats run into the road and many end their lives that way.

Alright, you say that you were speeding and perhaps that did not help, but you had no control over the poor cat. you could not help that it ran into the road. It was good of you to stop to see if you could help.

Please do not feel too bad. It is upsetting but you did not mean for it to happen.

My son had a cat run in front of his van, there was nothing he could do to miss it. He too was very upset. The family who's cat it was were very understanding.

The fact that the cat was black does not mean anything, it could have been any color.

Thank you for being brave enough to share your story with us.
