Is Sonny Silly?

by Kate

Our boy cat is called Sonny because he was one of a litter of only two kittens, the other a female was called Cher of course.

Sonny is a great little guy. He is so full of love and can be extremely amusing with the things he gets up to. He goes outside to enjoy the air and sun, he is never out for long as food is at home.

Now before we had the pet door put in he would hop up on the window ledge and scratch the window pane to let us know he wants in. Now he uses the pet door, well most of the time he does.

Some days for whatever reason he forgets he has his own little entrance and scratches at the window. We have tried ignoring him reasoning that he will get fed up with scratching and use the pet door. But no, he stubbornly keeps attacking the window pane and I swear that he would be at it for the rest of the day and all night if we let him.

Next day he is back to using his pet door. We can't figure why he does this, is it one day memory loss or is Sonny truly a silly cat?

Try leaving the window open.

Why not just leave the window open then your cat will not have to scratch at it. If it is raining your cat will not want to be outside anyways and if you are out, and you close the window, the cat will not annoy you and will use the cat door.

Not such a silly cat.

Hi Kate,

Thank you very much indeed for sharing your story about Sonny with us.

Personally I don't think that your cat is so silly. Our little feline friends do like to manipulate us, some cats more than others.

The pet door may get him in the house, but the window gets your attention :0) You have to go and open the window for Sonny to come in and that gives him a little control over his human.

It may be something that you will just have to tolerate. You may be able to break the habit, but I think it would take a lot of patience, and Sonny sounds like he is worth his little bit of control :0)
