Lucky Black and White Cat.

by Jill

Hello,

A long time ago somebody told me that black cats were often the last to be chosen from the RSPCA and rescue centers. I have always wondered why because they are beautiful animals and said to be lucky.

It never entered my mind that some people think black cats are unlucky and I’m guessing that could be the reason that some people are reluctant to adopt them.

My own lucky cat is unusual in that she is not a black cat, but a black and white cat.

Her name is Paula and I took her on from Margaret an elderly lady that lived next door. Margaret became badly crippled by arthritis and so went to live with her daughter, sadly Paula could not go with her. Margaret’s daughter did promise to bring her back to visit Paula but so far this has only happened once.

Margaret insisted that all black and white cats are lucky and that Paula is no exception. Well I think that I am very lucky to have Paula she is a joy to have around the place, she is so sweet natured and also gives me a lot of laughs.

So that is at least two people in this world that think black and white cats are lucky, watch out you lucky black cats you have competition.

BLACK VS WHITE CAT
by: DAN

RE BLACK VS WHITE CAT
I LIVE IN AN APT UNIT WITH MANY STRAY CATS. IF A BLACK CAT CROSSING IN FRONT OF ME, BAD LUCK(?). THEN IF A WHITE CAT CROSSING IN FRONT OF ME, GOOD LUCK(?). DOES A WHITE CAT CANCEL OUT THE BAD LUCK OF A BLACK CAT?

Lucky Cats
by: Anonymous

I received a pair of Maneki Neko cats - one black and one white. I believe the white was said to be good fortune in all things in other places it's said to represent creativity and purity. The black wards off evil and bad luck. So a cat of both...sounds pretty lucky to me!

Maneki Neko -- The Legend

This is the legend of the Maneki Neko:

In the 17th century, there was a rundown and poverty-stricken temple in Tokyo. The temple's priest was very poor, but he shared what little food he had with his pet cat, Tama.

One day, a wealthy and important man was caught in a storm while hunting and he took refuge under a big tree near the temple. While he waited for the storm to pass, the man noticed a cat beckoning him to come inside the temple gate. This was so startling that he left the shelter of the tree to have a closer look at this unusual cat. At that moment, the tree was struck by lighting.

As a result, the wealthy man became friends with the poor priest, and the temple became prosperous. The priest and his cat never went hungry again.

When Tama died he was buried in the Goutokuji Temple's cat cemetery with respect and love, and the Maneki Neko was made in honor of him. A Maneki Neko in your place of business, your home or on your website is said to bring in good luck and visitors.

Maneki Neko is Japanese for "beckoning cat." The message he's holding says "Please come in. You are welcome!" and he is beckoning you with his paw . (In Japan, the gesture of beckoning is pretty much the reverse of the gesture used in the West.)

Stray at my door!!!!
by: Lee

I had a big black and white cat sit outside my apt. door for three hours. When the super asked me if it was mine, the cat came running in. Finally after chasing the cat I picked it up and gave it to the super. It wasn,t mine:)

If Paula is lucky for you . . .
by: Larry (editor)

Hi Jill,

I must admit that, like you, I’d never heard of black and white cats being lucky. But if Paula is lucky for you then she is indeed a lucky cat. Thanks for sharing your story.

Does anyone else think black and white cats lucky?

Larry,
