Mae Chose Me

Mae
I met Mae at a very full shelter where she had been living for about a month.
She was in a small cage on a huge wall of floor-to-ceiling cages with cats.
Mae went home with me that day because she was the LOUDEST cat there. Over more than 2 dozen other cats doing their thing, Mae's howl was piercing. It struck me the second I walked in.
I walked over to her cage and petted her, at which point she went into full-on petmepetmepetme purr mode. "See how nice I am?" she seemed to ask.
She was nice, but she was also the same age/sex as my other cat, which I had read wasn't a good idea.
So I gave her a pat and started looking at other cats.
Too bad Mae had already decided I was it.
She howled and howled. I gave in.
I can't imagine my life without her.
