My beautiful Sammy
by Gloria Georgiou
I am a animal love, always have been. My husband and I have lived in our house for over ten years.
One morning, while putting out the trash in the front yard I noticed a skinny black and white cat. He was digging in my trash looking for food.
I felt sorry for him so I went in the house and cut up some small hamburger meat (cooked) and brought it to him but he ran away. I left for work but left the food by the garage outside the house. When I returned the food was gone. I bought him some cat food and for over two weeks Sammy would come and eat then run away. Never allowing me to touch him. My husband is a dog lover, does not like cats. I have two large dogs who don't like cats either. Therefore I could really not introduce Sammy to my dogs because I felt they would hurt him.
Well time went on and kept feeling Sammy until eventually he became friendly towards me. I never gave up. He finally allowed me to pet and hold him. He was an outside cat, stayed out doors at night, I made him a bed by my front door where he slept at night. He gained weight and was no longer the skinny stray cat I knew.
One day I noticed he had a lump on his back, it drained and came back. My husband said we needed to take him to the vet. The vet she told me he had been in a fight, the bite mark on his back infected and swelled up. The vet told me Sammy had been spaded. He had once belonged to someone. I had her give him all the necessary shots and we took him home.
I was at work and my husband told me he let Sammy in the house,my dogs got alone with him and they became friends. My Sammy lives in doors now, sometimes going outside. He loves to just smell the fresh air.
I love my Sammy, he's brought so much joy to my household, even my husband has opened his heart to Sammy.
