My real witch cat.

by Jess
(Illinois)

Being an avid Edgar Allan Poe fan and lover of Halloween, I had wanted a black cat for a very long time. I love all cats, but there is just something about the black ones that I find particularly beautiful.

About a year ago, I finally got my wish, and I have to say, I think he is the most handsome cat that ever lived (not that I'm biased). I call him Pluto, after Poe's short story.

He's my little buddy- he follows me everywhere, sleeps with me, and he won't cuddle or purr for anyone else. We have our own little game, too. Every time I go into my bedroom, he'll dart under the bed and wait for me to walk by, then attack my unsuspecting ankles until I get down on all fours and play with him.

I even dressed up as a witch for Halloween last year and carried him around with me! I was the only witch at the party with a REAL black cat. ;)

Nice friendly temperament.
by: Jobaputra

A very good looking fellow captured in a fine photograph. Pluto has such a glossy coat.

Your black cat must be of fine temperament to permit you to carry him around at a party with all distractions. It is proving what I always say, that black cats are not nasty, like some would say, but very nice cats.

Pluto is indeed handsome.
by: Larry (Editor)

Hi Jess,

Oh yes, Pluto is indeed handsome! I love that expression on his face, seems to say "yes, I'm a friendly chap but don't mess with me." :)

Your cat attacks you feet? Mine does that to me as well, more often when I'm in bed but sometimes when I walk by. I've never thought of getting on all fours and playing with him but I'll give it a try.

With a black cat named Pluto around, I wouldn't try walling anyone up! You'll never get away with it :)

Thank you very much for sharing Pluto's story and photo with us.

Cats are good luck

by harnnet

I really cant say its true or not but i cat tell you that i am not lying.

Last year when i was going home late from school i saw a black small things flying in the air but as i look at it when i approach it closely i saw 4 black cats one was a very fat cat and the others were like normal.

They all stare at me looking as if i did some thing so wrong i quietly just walk away slowly never looking back as they were giving me goose bump.

I rum home directly to the short sut as it was starting to get very late. But when i get home i see a box at our front door and inside there was a kitten it was a white one.

Strange Story.
by: Larry (editor)

Hi Harnnet,

Thank you very much indeed for sharing your story with us, it certainly is a strange one.

Black small things flying in the air? Bats maybe?

What happened to the white kitten? Did you adopt her/him?

Are cats good luck? I'd say yes they are, even black ones that a lot of people think are unlucky. Anyone who has the joy and privilege to share their life with a cat is indeed lucky :0)

Of course, to enjoy that luck you have to take care of your cat companion properly, I'm sure that you know that.

Thank you again for sharing your story with us.

One Lucky Black Cat.

Gaia

Gaia

I was driving home from work late at night with the children sleeping peacefully in the backseat.

Our neighborhood was extremely dark and I was having to navigate quite a narrow space to get past all the curb parked cars. Without any warning, two copper globes were glowering at me just a few feet away from my headlights. I slammed on the brakes and saw an ebony blur dart under an old pickup truck.

I pulled my hazard lights on and called out to see if I could help the poor stray. A very raucous and coarse meow greeted my calls and the mysterious shadow dove into my arms. This was about 6 months ago and Gaia is now a part of our family. Her name means mother, and she is a true to nature Bombay; full of love and playfulness.

My black shade is nothing but good luck as she watches over our family like a hawk and purrs as our three year old gleefully dresses her like a baby and runs with her through the house.

Lucky
by: April

This is why I do wish that people would keep their cats in the house, not just black cats and not just at night.

I'm happy that your cat was lucky. Yes lucky not to have been killed and lucky to have found a home.

A Beauty.
by: Larry (editor)

Hi Missy,

Oh my, I'd say that Gaia is indeed a lucky black cat. She is lucky that you spotted her eyes in the dark and were able to stop. Gaia is also very lucky to have found herself a family that gives her so much love.

It sounds like your black cat friend is lucky for you too. Thank you very much for sharing Gaia's picture with us, she is a beauty.

I can imagine her being dressed up like a baby and tolerating it. :0)

your cat made it.
by: Anonymous

Losing your cat in a fire must be terrible. It is good tho that your other cat made it thru. I have had a black cat and she was the sweetest thing not mean like some people say and in no way was she bad luck or a jinks or anything.

Survivor.
by: Larry (editor)

Hello,

Thank you very much for telling us about Star.

How wonderful it is that Star survived your house fire and how sad that Midnight didn't. You don't say if any people were hurt in the fire, so I will assume that no body was and that's a blessing.

It is good that Star is a sweet cat and that you bond well with her. There is nothing unusual or strange about most black cats, they are just cats with a lot of love, but you know that :0)

So much fun.
by: Larry (Editor)

Hello,

Zsazsa sounds like a delightful black kitten.

Kittens that run around like a nut case are the best kind, they are so much fun.
