Not all cats are alike.

The entire two cats that we have owned have cried to be outdoors. We let them out. One has been taken by a coyote. However, there are breeds that really do prefer to be inside only. So, it really depends on the breed and maybe even the cat itself.

My heart feels that they should be allowed to be outside. Protect them as best you can, and if they get taken....well, mourn their death and know that they've had a wonderful life.

I kept my cat inside at all times, I could tell he would love to see what it is like outside but at the same time I know he was very happy with his life.

I was so happy too. He was a super smart cat, always wanted to jump into my arms and purr. He did not like when someone visited, he hissed and spat so much I had to shut him in the back room.

He was such a friend, can you imagine how I felt when he escaped. I searched and searched, I still miss him now. I will not have another cat.

I had many cats most just moggy cats all of them kept indoors and they were happy.

I have never heard of special cat breeds that like to stay inside.

It's natural.

Hi Jeanne,

I'm sorry to read that one of your cats was taken by a coyote.

It is my belief that all cats, given a choice, would sample the outside. It's natural that they would want to do so. Perhaps some cats would be less interested in life outside than others.

But I also believe that most cats can be happy indoors, especially if they have never known anything else. The do need a bit of company and some exercise but can lead a contented life inside.

Not saying it is wrong to let a cat out, just that it is so much safer inside.

Thank you very much for sharing your story with us.
