Outdoor Kitty

Cats should be outside! My first 2 cats I owned, I declawed them and kept them inside. I felt guilty for their quality of life.

My current cat is an outdoor/indoor cat. He loves it outside, especially in the summer. He is the best cat I have ever owned, the most affectionate.

Unfortunately, there have been some problems. When we lived in a busier area, he was hit by a car and survived. He also fought with a raccoon. He has survived but has some scars. He loves to hunt,so I have received many presents.

Now that we have more land, it is less busy and he is safer. I swear he looks both ways now before he crosses the street.

Despite the dangers, I can't imagine keeping him confined. He loves the outdoors too much. I can't help but think I could never live in captivity. I would rather live 10 years outside then 18 years inside. Why wouldn't feel the same way?

I completely understand why people keep their cats inside, out of love. However, I think cats should be outdoors and precautions can be provided if owners are worried.

i think sameway and becouse of that today i had an argu with my cat veteriner.he told me cats can not be out and in at same time because they are dangerouse for human in this way ,also for themsalves.well i am not so much agree with him .1-peopel bring deaseses from outside also everywwehe around us is full of microbes and parasits ,so we shouldnot go out also spescialy our kids!2-living this way maybe help with natural vaccinating.we will be in contact with some bacteries and other things little by little so help our body to learn to fight better.but the most important thing is do we have right to jail a free animal and donot let him to be with it;s own kind freinds just because we love him and want him to live longer.we don;t underestand their langouage and behaviores very well,so how we know they like this way living .would we have good fealling if some alians try to keep us with themselves.!!!!my cat learned so many things that i tell him like come and have goodies ans he come fast or do you want to go out and he goes to door to show me he is in agreement with me or donot go to the door to show he donot want to go out .well maybe we think we are the most intelligent creature but my cat learned from me and still i can not underestand what he want when he say meaw!!!!!!!!!!

Cats would say they want to go outside.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your views on the indoors or outdoors for cats debate.

Yes, I agree that if they were able to answer, cats would say they want to go outside, of course they would.

But whether they should be allowed out is a different question, a question that, I'd say, there is no right or wrong answer.

Even a "less busy" area has its dangers. My daughter-in-law's cat lived for most of it's life in the city. They moved out to the country and the poor cat lost it's life to a vehicle.

Yes, there are precautions that you can take to give an indoor cat a taste of the outside, such as outdoor enclosures or walking with a leash and harness.
