Safe outdoor cat

by Emma
(Long Eaton, derbyshire, UK)

We have a cat called lucky who we've had since he was a kitten and now he is 5 years old and has lived outdoors for his whole life.

We live on a quiet cul-de-sac with hardly any traffic.hes shy around people he doesn't know so when he's outside he just runs away.hes been microchiped had injections worming tablets etc and there aren't any wild animals where we live so there?s no danger of him being attacked.

There are a few busy roads around us but he doesn't go near them he only goes half way down our street, and the neighbours who used to live next door had a cat who lived to 19 and some people across the street still have a really old cat not sure how old she is and there are plenty of other cats down our street.

He has a cat flap that works on his microchip so goes in and out when he feels like it. He does bring some mice home but he eats the whole thing even though he gets fed twice a day.

He has gorgeous soft fur and is constantly cleans himself he looks and is very healthy and regularly goes to the vet for checkups. He is a very well behaved cat as well he never scratched the furniture, very docile never hurt us on purpose and learned to use the litter tray, which he doesn't anymore as he goes outside.

He's always happy to see us and spends most of the day sleeping in my room and night time roaming about I couldn't dream of keeping him in.

When we have to keep him in to go to the vet he complains all night so we have to lock him downstairs.

I never worry about him and he always happy so I never will worry about him and I hope he will enjoy going outside for a long time to come.

Lucky - a great black cat.
by: Larry (Editor)

Hi Emma,

Oh yes, what a good looking fellow and fine example of a black cat Lucky is. Excellent photos too.

Yes I expect that he does complain when you have to keep him in, he probably wonders why you are depriving him of his prowling around time.

I'm glad that he is able to enjoy the relative safety of your quiet cul-de-sac.

Lucky is a great cat you must think the world of him.

Thank you so much for sharing his story and photographs with us.
