Silly Cat Lu-Lu, Queen of the Gutter.

In The Gutter.

In The Gutter.

Introducing perhaps the silliest cat ever Lu –Lu, the cat that likes to lay in the gutter. Not on the window ledge or the garden wall as most cats would do, not even on the pavement, but it has to be right in the gutter.

If it is sunny weather she will be in the same spot in the gutter all day only coming in when evening falls.

She prefers a spot right outside the house, but if cars are parked there she will wander along the pavement to a free space. She will not walk too far though, she does tend to be lazy, if there is no free space near she will stretch out under a car.

Lu-Lu may be a silly cat but not silly enough not to get right out of the way if an engine starts up, or someone is backing into a space she is laying in.

Lu-Lu has done this since she was about seven months old, which was around the same time as the financial crisis started, and things are still bad now. We joke that Lu-Lu is predicting that we will end up in the gutter, at least we hope that it is only a joke!

Oil spills?
by: Anonymous

What a bizarre habit. I would worry that she would get oil or spilled gasoline on her coat or worse lick up spilled anti freeze. But then if she has camped in that spot all this time and not come to harm, long may she do it.

I think she lays there because she's less likely to pick up fleas away from hedgehog haunts. It's probably nice and warm and clean feeling for her. Tarmac's spongy when it's warm. I think she's a clever cat.

How strange.
by: Larry (editor)

Hi Bev,

Well I'm glad to read that Lu-Lu moves in good time when there is traffic about.

How strange that she should choose to lie there. Perhaps she finds the tarmac to be comforting, but with cats - who knows :)

Let us hope that this horrible economic situation gets better before we all end in the gutter. Maybe one day soon Lu-Lu will abandon her preferred place to lay and that will signal a turn around :)

Thank you very much for sharing Lu-Lu's story with us.
