The Great Outdoors

Our Milo is an 8 yr old rescue cat and we knew he was an outdoor cat before we got him. There's just no way we could confine him indoors without him going bonkers! I do worry about him when he's out (mostly that he'll get run over) but I'd rather he had a shorter, exciting full life than a long, boring half-life.

Outdoor cat
by: Jason

My cat was a stray that had been roaming around my aunt's house for several months. He is usually very laid-back and loving, but he gets very stressed when he wants to go out. If I don't let him out, he sprays everywhere, meows constantly, and even bites me (not hard, but hard enough).

I tried keeping him inside for a couple weeks, but I was getting stressed from him spraying everywhere and keeping me up at night with his meowing.

Got to go out.

It is very sad what happened to your sisters cat, some people need locking away for good.

But bad things don't always happen to cats that go out the door. I agree that some cats you just can't keep shut in the house, they have got to come and go when they feel like it because there cats.

We had a cat like that, we could not have insisted that she stay in she would have tore up the house and us also! She had her pet door and she knew how to use it, she lived to a great age always going out. Miss her.

Outdoor Cat
by: Connie

I am unhappy that you feel it necessary that Milo continue to be an outdoor cat. My sister felt the same way and her cat came home with burn marks on him from being tortured. The vet said that he thought that Pounce had also been kicked in the eye which needed to be removed.

Her other cat came home with his leg half chewed off by an animal. He went into shock and died before she got him to the vet.

Now we all have indoor cats and I have a large wire enclosure with a tarp for shade, a small cat condo where my 2 cats can enjoy being outside safely and they are happy coming and going when they please through their cat door.. Please keep your cat safe.

Freedom.

Hi Linda,

I can understand what you mean when you say that you know your cat is an outdoor cat and that he would go bonkers if kept inside.

My basil was like that, he loved freedom. Trouble is that he had a couple of serious arguments with cars.

What to do? I guess the only answer is to live somewhere where there is no traffic - but where is that?

Great story thank you very much for sharing it.
