You and the cat choose each other.

In my time I’ve had the pleasure of sharing my life with many amazing cats. What the exact number is I’m having trouble calculating but it must be approaching forty. Not all of them at the same time I must add, probably the most at the one time have been a dozen, or perhaps a few more.

Some cats I’ve looked after for a spell while their real people have looked for a new home or gotten over some difficulty or other. Mostly though the cats have been for keeps. Cats near the end of their time in this life and kittens learning what life is about, sick cats, cats that are as fit as a lively fiddle, ugly cats, cats that are as pretty as a chocolate box, bad tempered cats and cats that would give you all the affection that you would ever need. My home has been a home to them all.

You know, I don’t think that it is a question of you choosing the cat or the cat choosing you. You and the cat choose each other, I’m sure of that. You make the choice to take care of the creature and the cat makes the choice to let you do that or sometimes not.

They don’t ask much from you, just for a commitment. Give them that and they will choose you.

Anna.

You make great point.

Hi Anna,

You make great point, I can see that in a way both you and the cat choose each other.

We choose a cat and bring it home from a shelter, for instance, but the cat chooses to stay with us. She also chooses how she relates to us.

Thanks for a great post.
